Called green beans, beans, chaucha, beans among other names, the immature fruit of the Phaseolus vulgaris plant. They are flattened and elongated pods, and in their interior there are a variable number of seeds depending on the species of green bean.

Although in the maturing process the walls of the sheath are hardened by the formation of fibrous tissues, in their immature form they are tender and edible and are consumed as legumes.
